The Therapy and Mindfulness Garden
Help Us Bring the Garden to Life
The total cost of construction and maintenance for 5–10 years is between $1 million–$1.5 million. To make the dream of this therapeutic and beautiful space a reality, we need your help. Every gift makes an impact and takes us closer to bringing this beautiful and restorative space to life!
While the medicines and technology that are part of modern medicine can be truly miraculous, there is something that is equally as healing, if often overlooked — nature.
Imagine hearing difficult news during a visit with your physician and needing a minute before you get in your car for the drive home. Picture a nurse who just finished a challenging case and could use five minutes to regain their composure before seeing their next patient.
Many health care centers have begun installing therapeutic gardens. A therapy and mindfulness garden at the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare would enrich lives.
Potential Garden Features
The entire garden will be created with intention and purpose to encourage resilience and rejuvenation. This would be an empowering space for our collective human experience.
Practicing yoga outdoors wakes all your senses, activates the brain, reduces stress and lowers your blood pressure and heart rate.
Walking a labyrinth is essentially moving meditation. Completing a journey to the center and back provides an opportunity for reflection and stress reduction.
A water feature will provide soothing sights and sounds to help promote relaxation and stress.
With wings like nature’s version of stained glass, butterflies bring movement and beauty to any garden, grounding visitors in the present.
Providing benches around the area’s existing towering oak trees will provide a place for patients, physicians and other visitors to pause to enjoy the fresh air or a quiet conversation.
Rather than sitting inside at their desk or having to drive to a nearby restaurant, physicians, staff, patients and visitors could enjoy their meals in this refreshing outdoor eating space.
