Frequently Asked Questions

What is Loyalty Herd?
Loyalty Herd recognizes and thanks donors who have made gifts of any size to any program, college or campus initiative at the University of South Florida for three or more consecutive fiscal years (July 1– June 30).

Why was Loyalty Herd established?
The ongoing annual support of our donors is the lifeblood of the university and foundation for USF’s continued growth. In recognition of this important commitment, Loyalty Herd was established to celebrate the individuals who make our success possible each year.

Do I need to give a certain amount every year to be in Loyalty Herd?
No. Gifts of any size will be recognized, as long as at least one gift is made per fiscal year (July 1– June 30).

How are my years of loyalty calculated?
Loyalty Herd membership is based on household giving. The number of consecutive giving years is determined by the person in the household with the longest years of uninterrupted consecutive giving to USF.

What if I have been giving to USF for a longer period of time, but not consecutively?
We appreciate your dedication to USF! We understand that donors may have a greater number of total giving years than consecutive years. Through Loyalty Herd, milestone years of consecutive giving will be recognized at 3, 5, 10, 25 and 30+ years.

Do pledges count toward my recognition in Loyalty Herd?
Loyalty Herd membership is based on cash gifts and pledge payments. Commitments and open pledge balances do not qualify.

Can I “buy back” lapsed years of giving?
We do not offer a “buy back” system for years in which donors did not give to the university. If you miss a fiscal year, you will experience a lapse in Loyalty Herd recognition. Loyalty Herd membership can be reinstated when you reach another three consecutive years of support.

Is this program only for USF alumni?
No. Loyalty Herd celebrates all consecutive-giving donors, alumni, staff, faculty, parents, students and friends of USF.

If I am a Loyalty Herd donor, can I also be a member of other recognition programs at USF?
Yes! If your giving meets the guidelines for President’s Circle or our Recognition Societies, you may also be a member of those programs.

Do gifts to WUSF Public Media, USF Botanical Gardens, USF Athletics, USF Health and the USF Alumni Association count toward my consecutive giving history?
Yes. Gifts which benefit WUSF Public Media, USF Botanical Gardens, USF Athletics, USF Health and the USF Alumni Association are counted towards qualifying Loyalty Herd recognition, minus the amount of any goods or services received.

What recognition will I receive?
Because giving annually is important and deeply appreciated, Loyalty Herd donors will receive special recognition throughout the year and when giving milestones are reached.
