Remembering Emaleigh  

It was their daughter's 21st birthday, but there would be no celebration. Instead, Robin and Neil Rivell marked the occasion by signing their names to establish the endowed Emaleigh Dawn Rivell "Never Settle" Scholarship in her memory. Emaleigh was such a selfless young woman that the Rivells felt moved to honor her legacy by giving back to other USF students. "She had the biggest heart," confides her mother, Robin. "She was kind and she loved to help people." 

Emaleigh was only 18 years old and a sophomore at USF when she passed away in a car accident in 2014. But in her short time, her parents reflect, she touched so many lives. Emaleigh dreamed of attending the USF College of Nursing after she witnessed her aunt and two cousins' long recovery after a serious car accident. Sadly, her life was cut short before she could apply to the program. 

"When Emaleigh was born, we thought she was our legacy," said Robin. "But now we know that we are hers. We are trying to live our life the way she would have wanted and that is why this scholarship is so important to us — it's an extension of her."

Your gift will benefit nursing students at USF Sarasota-Manatee, helping them fulfill Emaleigh's dream of caring for others while keeping her name alive, along with her mantra: Never settle.
