Who We Are

The USF School of Geosciences, a result of merging Geology, Environmental Science & Policy, and Geography programs, stands out for its innovative model. By incorporating the Geography program, it seamlessly combines human, environmental and geospatial science elements. This unique approach has fostered collaboration, shared resources and a common vision. The School has steadily grown, sharing faculty, staff, students and resources to graduate individuals uniquely equipped for socioenvironmental challenges.

The mission focuses on delivering high-quality education, impactful research and community partnerships. With values of responsibility, freedom, collegiality and diversity, the School aspires to be a top academic and research geoscience unit, contributing to Florida's quality of life in the global economy. The goals include producing well-educated and skilled graduates, conducting high-impact research and fostering beneficial partnerships for a sustainable future.

What We Do

Embarking on Phase Two of the USF Field Station project is an exciting venture by the School of Geosciences, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the USF Geology Alumni Association. After successfully securing funds for land acquisition and constructing the main building, the focus now shifts towards making the facility operational for Summer 2024. The current status includes completed groundwork and a poured concrete pad, with construction scheduled for this summer/early fall.

Securing additional funding is essential for operational readiness and aims to make the building minimally usable for upcoming camps. The required enhancements involve installing indoor plumbing, bathrooms, hot water heaters, electrical systems, an operational kitchen and essential furnishings.

This phase also focuses on outfitting the station with classroom, field and lab essentials. This includes classroom furniture, a 4x4 vehicle, an ATV, tools, microscopes, lab storage and miscellaneous field equipment. These additions are vital for creating a comprehensive and fully equipped field station.
