Pharmacy Career Orientation Camp

Who We Are

The Pharmacy Career Orientation Camp brings together USF Health and Taneja College of Pharmacy faculty, PharmD alumni and community volunteers to illuminate the evolving role of pharmacists in interprofessional health care teams. The camp focuses on dispelling myths about the profession and educating students on the evolution of the field, highlighting cutting-edge fields like pharmacogenomics, nuclear medicine and nanotechnology.

What We Do

Going into the camp’s third year, our goal is to expose middle school, high school and pharmacy tech students to all aspects of the academic, clinical and research missions of USF Health.  

Campers can look forward to the following experiences:

• Lab tours
• USF campus pharmacy tours
• Student, staff and faculty Q&A sessions
• Hands-on experience in pharmacies filling prescriptions
• Interactions with other health college students
• Understanding bioinformatics
• Introduction to artificial intelligence in pharmacy

Your Impact

Dr. Thea Moore, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapeutics and Clinical Research, reflects on last year's camp by sharing, "It was so exciting and rewarding to see the participants really engage and show their innovative and creative thinking when they were asked to develop a business plan for a pharmacy-related venture. The plans they proposed were so innovative that I can't wait to see what these brilliant minds develop.
 

We got great feedback about how the many opportunities and avenues, which they hadn't known about or been exposed to previously, were really exciting to learn about and they took away some key information that they would never forget."

When 25 gifts are secured a gift of $2,000 will be unlocked to support the Pharmacy Career Orientation Camp thanks to the generosity of alumna Dr. Lynette Menezes.

What Your Generosity Will Do

Donations will support the next generation of pharmacy leaders by underwriting the cost of operating camp and sponsoring campers who otherwise couldn't afford to attend.

“This would be the best time spent for any student to spend time with us. This is bigger than us. This is about investing in our future,”  said Dr. Angela Hill, professor and associate dean of clinical practice. “We’re grateful to USF for embracing and supporting us. We hope the Tampa Bay community can see that we care, and we really want to help make sure we produce good citizens who can impact health care.”
