Who We Are

The Global and National Security Institute (GNSI) at USF was established to lead the university’s strategic efforts in the global and national security environment. Under the direction of retired Gen. Frank McKenzie, former commander of U.S. Central Command, GNSI works closely with leaders and experts from across a wide spectrum of disciplines, bringing together academia, government and private industry. What We Do

GNSI provides actionable solutions to 21st-century security challenges for decision-makers at the local, state, national and global levels, focused on the boundary of security policy and technology. 

Rapidly changing environments in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, extended and virtual reality, machine learning, biometrics and quantum computing require policymakers to understand complex challenges they’ve never had to consider before. GNSI provides these decision-makers and policymakers with the most complete and up-to-date information possible to meet those challenges.

• Support USF and work with academic experts and leaders in securing additional grant opportunities for advanced research and publication regarding the global security environment. 
• Create a professional education program that will attract the best officers and leaders from our nation’s military services and other national security agencies to USF.
• Build a robust publishing platform that will feature a peer-reviewed academic journal, research publications and the eventual creation of a University Press at USF
• Sustain a vigorous conference series, bringing world-renowned speakers and leaders in national security to USF and generating research and insight to inform senior policymakers.

Your generosity fuels our mission to build upon USF’s extensive R&D assets and deep relationship with USCENTCOM and USSOCOM at MacDill Air Force Base, as well as existing partnerships with the Florida Institute for Cyber Security and the Institute for Applied Engineering, to achieve prominence in global and national security activities.
