Longtime friends of USF and avid Bulls fans, Richard and Susan Tron created their own unstoppable legacy with a gift that will fund an endowed scholarship for the University of South Florida baseball team.
Originally from New Jersey, the Trons moved to the Tampa area in 2002. They owe their USF affiliation to daughter Michelle, a highly-involved College of Education student who graduated in 2007. Post-graduation, the entire Tron family stayed in Tampa, with Michelle marrying a fellow USF grad, starting a beautiful family and teaching in Pasco County, and Richard and Susan enjoying retirement and their grandchildren. They are season ticket holders for football, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s basketball. The idea to create a legacy gift developed at a financial seminar when an advisor suggested the Trons leave money for an area or cause they support. They decided to combine their appreciation of education with their love for sports by assisting student-athletes.
"We loved the idea of creating a legacy gift to fund a scholarship. Using life insurance to create this gift makes it possible for us to give much more than if we created a one-time gift right now." – Susan Tron
“As much as we enjoy sports, academics are a priority to us. Lelo made us feel confident that our gift would benefit well rounded students who strive for excellence on and off the field. The coaches, development officers, and the new athletic director have all been wonderful in helping us through this process. We are looking forward to greater involvement with the team as members of the Bulls Club and enjoying more Friday night games.” – Richard Tron
