The Project/Challenge
Students who identify as LGBTQ+ face financial challenges much differently than their peers. Among the various reasons, lack of familial support is one of the most prevalent. This can result in homelessness, difficulty repaying debt after graduation, and anxiety about being discriminated against while seeking employment. By earning a scholarship, the concerns of these students can become significantly mitigated.
Make an even bigger impact! Our Project Owner, Dr. Ron Kennedy, will make a $5,000 donation to the LGBTQ+ Scholarship Fund if the project is able to reach our goal of 25 gifts by April 8!
Who We Are
The LGBT+ Scholarship supports USF students who demonstrate academic achievement, have unmet financial need and have contributed to the welcoming climate of all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and thus support their academic, personal and social development as a citizen in the community.
Since 2009, this scholarship has awarded more than $40,000 to support our high-achieving LGBTQ+ student leaders. Our goal is to raise more financial support for deserving students and to bring awareness to issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and generate dialogue amongst students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Your Impact
Supporting LGBTQ+ students will not only assist with financial needs, but also provide transformative education to make an inclusive and welcoming difference in the world. All students should have the same access to education regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. Receiving an LGBTQ+ scholarship will assist in bridging the gap and opening doors that otherwise may not have been available. It will give these students a sense of achievement and recognition they will carry with them for years to come. Any gift, any size, shows they have support throughout their college journey and beyond. To know that there are people who want you to reach greater heights can make a huge difference!
What Your Gifts Will Do
Your gift will help build the critical resources for the LGBTQ+ Scholarship, which will change the lives of our students on campus. We want all students to feel welcome and equal. So many people in our community are rejected by their support system for living authentically – including students at USF. Providing financial support is one way we can ensure they know that there are people in their corner.
