The Project

The Stay the Course Scholarship helps students who encounter unexpected financial hardships stay in school and keep on their path to graduation. These students have dedicated themselves to completing their coursework and this fund helps alleviate the stress of financial burdens that may have otherwise caused them to leave school. 

Who We Are

This fund was established in 2018 by USF internal staff who identified a need to help hard-working students experiencing financial hardships, secure funding to “stay the course” and finish their degree. 

Your Impact

This scholarship is for those that are struggling to complete their education due to financial hardships. Kenia Perez Torres, a recent Stay the Course Scholarship recipient, shares that this fund saved her life. She is in her final semester at USF in the elementary education program, a single mother to a special needs child, is completing a full-time unpaid internship as part of her curriculum and is working part-time during nights and weekends. Without this scholarship she would have had to drop out of her final semester to take on full-time job to cover her living expenses.

She reached out to teachers and USF staff to help her identify grants, funds and anything that could keep her on track to graduation this May. Within days, she was awarded the Stay the Course Scholarship. There are many students with stories like Kenia’s. They are working hard to make their educational dreams come true while balancing unexpected challenges that could sway them off course. This scholarship provides a financial boost so they can realize their dreams and move towards their career goals.
