USF Health pandemic research & response

As the novel coronavirus spreads around the world, healthcare workers have become key soldiers on the frontline of the crisis. In the midst of the contagious outbreak, USF Health medical professionals are working tirelessly to address the nation's swab shortage for COVID-19 tests, research solutions, expand testing for the virus in the Tampa Bay community and continuing to care for patients.

In April, Tampa philanthropist and USF alumna, Mary T. Pipino, made a generous gift of $50,000 to launch the USF Health Pandemic Research & Response Fund. USF Health also received a gift from United States Senator, Rick Scott, who donated $35,000 to the fund.

The USF Health Pandemic Research & Response Fund has supported the immediate and long-term needs of USF Health to prevent, treat and train for a pandemic response. This fund supports research efforts and is helping to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has affected the lives of millions.

How You Can Help

With your help, we can support our frontline medical professionals and continue to combat the spread of COVID-19 now, and for future outbreaks or emergencies. Your donation will be put into action right now, to help patients and the frontline medical staff immediately.

USF Health, Apr 7, 2020

We have received a generous boost to the Pandemic Research & Response Fund with a $35,000 donation from U.S. Senator Rick Scott and his wife.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Our nation is facing an unprecedented crisis. We, as Americans, have to come together to innovatively adapt and solve problems, and that’s exactly what USF Health is doing. Their work to quickly develop Coronavirus testing supplies with 3-D printing technology will help us ramp up testing efforts nationwide and curb the spread of the Coronavirus NOW. I’m grateful to USF Health and all the incredible businesses, individuals and organizations across our state and nation doing their part to end the Coronavirus, and I encourage every American to follow their lead. Together, we can beat this.”

Thank you to everyone who has made a gift to the USF Health Pandemic Research & Response Fund to date. Your support has had an immediate impact in our community and beyond in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

Because of you, we are creating COVID-19 test collection kits and conducting translational research, as well as launching multiple clinical trials to combat this pandemic. Because of you we are able to better provide our nurses, physicians, and other providers with the resources necessary to keep them and our patients safer during this critical time.

Your response has been overwhelming and inspiring. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a tremendous difference in our ability to combat this virus. We are stronger together.

The need is still great, so please help us spread the word about this important fund on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn

Thanks again!
