Supporting USF Social Work Students

The Project/Challenge

Since 2017, the University of South Florida School of Social Work has hosted an annual scholarship breakfast bringing together 150 faculty, students, community partners and alumni to fellowship and raise funds to support the Social Work Student Scholarship. This event provided a great deal of assistance for our wonderful social work students.

Due to the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, the annual breakfast has not been held. This project allows us the opportunity to continue to champion for the needs of our students.  Gifts received will provide scholarships to students studying social work in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences, which will lighten the financial burden that many students face, especially during the pandemic.

Who We Are

The USF School of Social Work prepares graduates to achieve excellence as professionals and leaders in social work practice, research and education in addition to maintaining a commitment to promoting social and economic justice, human rights, human dignity, scientific inquiry, and sustainable human and community wellbeing for all. Social work is providing leadership, advocacy and service related to social justice and the development of new social structures to address important issues such as racism, mental health, trauma and poverty.

The Impact

Our students often have multiple responsibilities in their lives requiring them to work while in school. Scholarships help ease the financial and personal stressors that can become barriers to graduation and the ability to meet the increasing demand for social workers in Florida. Now more than ever, we must educate and train professional social workers to meet the vast needs of vulnerable populations in our communities. Supporting students today, who will be serving those in need in our community in the future, is a worthy investment.

Social workers help relieve people's suffering, fight for social justice and improve lives and communities – supporting students who have dedicated their lives to fight suffering and striving for justice is important. Supporting this scholarship will help students who have committed to dedicating their lives to supporting others.
