About The Sam FuLd T1D Sports Camp

The annual Sam Fuld T1D (type 1 diabetes) Sports Camp has been held since 2012 at the University of South Florida, providing an important outreach to children and families facing the life-altering disease of type 1 diabetes. Each year, faculty and staff of the USF Diabetes Center provide medical supervision for the campers, ages 8 to 17.

Former Tampa Bay Rays player, Sam Fuld, was diagnosed with the condition as a child and has become a national role model and spokesperson on the T1D front with his USF camp at the core of his work.

The Impact

The camp allows young athletes with type 1 diabetes, along with siblings and friends, to experience the joy and benefits of sports and physical activities in a safe environment, coached by successful athletes who "know T1D."

The coaches share a special connection with the campers in dealing with the daily challenges of type 1 diabetes — the positive messages that the campers receive about living with the chronic disease are just as important as the opportunity to catch fly balls, kick field goals or serve tennis balls.

The campers are coached by current and former professional and collegiate athletes, all of who have T1D themselves, are a T1D parent or have coached athletes with T1D.

Thank You For your Gift

For children with T1D, there's no experience like being around so many people just like them while having a blast playing their favorite sports. While being challenged to rise to their athletic potential, campers hear coaches' own diagnosis stories, discuss how they manage their diabetes while playing and witness them checking their blood sugars and adjusting insulin, which is what makes the Sam Fuld T1D Sports Camp so special.

Thank you for helping the USF Diabetes Center to provide young athletes with T1D the opportunities to live their best lives possible through your support of this campaign.
