Remembering Owen

Owen Chance Melin was born on August 17, 1997, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was known for his infectious positivity and drive for leaving the world better than he found it. He had a passion for helping others and aspired to use his studies in psychology in groundbreaking ways. Owen had a love for animals that gave him new and innovative ways to include animals in therapy for patients in mental health care and was a volunteer at Friends of Strays for years. He also worked while in school with Calling All Dogs as a pet walker and caregiver. Owen had a gift that we should all strive for, bringing out the best in other people. Owen was an avid bodybuilder and enjoyed restoring cars with his brother and friends.

The Owen Chance Melin Scholarship was established to honor Owen, who was tragically killed on May 27, 2020. We are commemorating his life and passion for helping others by providing scholarships to students pursuing a degree in psychology at the USF St. Petersburg campus.
