Who We Are
The Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of South Florida promotes social justice by engaging students in the discovery and production of knowledge that emerges from feminist perspectives on culture, society and sexuality.
This fund honors the contributions of Dr. Marilyn Myerson to the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She joined the department in 1973 when it was just one year old.
What We Do
We seek to empower students through a feminist critique of social, cultural and institutional structures that enable them to think more critically about their own lives and that inspire them to work as active citizens for social change.
The Impact
The Marilyn Myerson Student Success Fund will provide money to WGSS students to present their research at conferences and to cover the costs of research trips and expenses. This will ensure that all WGSS students have the opportunity to participate in professional and career development activities, network in their fields and pursue their research interests, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our students already present at the National Women’s Studies Association conference, the WGS South conference, and both the Graduate and Undergraduate Research Fairs at USF, but usually they have to cover those costs themselves, which can be a financial burden. This fund opens up the option of doing site research and presenting scholarships to a broader range of our students.
