Addressing Global Challenges

When the world needs innovative solutions for the biggest challenges we face, we turn to engineers. In response to the current global pandemic, the USF College of Engineering has stepped up. Our students and faculty are working on a variety of projects to support our community. For example, we optimized an open source design for face shields for health care workers and have repurposed our Mini-Circuits Design for X Lab into a manufacturing and assembly line now producing up to 5,000 face shields per week. 

Your Impact

Our engineers are continuously working closely with the USF community to collaborate on projects, research and development of materials and tools used to enhance the world we live in. By making a gift of any size, you will not only be partnering with us to provide much needed supplies for front line health care personnel, but also allowing the means for effective research that will lead us in developing future innovative solutions. You will also be helping with:

• Purchasing equipment and tools used to enhance the efficiency of the assembly for the face shields and ear saver comfort accessories for face masks.
• Maintenance and repairs of heavily used equipment in the labs as part of the manufacturing process — this equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers, is typically used by students to design and build engineering projects related to their coursework. 
• Labor costs for the engineering students and staff who are working in the labs that are manufacturing deliverables.

We also anticipate additional projects focused on providing creative solutions needed to address the many known and unknown challenges we face around the world.
