Who We Are

The USF College of Marine Science is proud of its more than 50-year legacy of ocean science research that matters — to you, to our communities and to the world. We are one of the elite marine science programs in the country.

Our science doesn’t stay behind the walls of the laboratory. We are proud to also have an established legacy of building education and outreach programs that ensure our science is shared with K-12 students, teachers and communities. We empower the next generation with the tools they need to be informed ocean stewards, and are working hard to build the foundation of a robust, blue workforce and economy in St. Petersburg, Florida, and beyond.

What We Do

Everyone knows our blue planet faces a suite of challenges, from degraded water quality to rising sea levels. These challenges are close to home — of the top 25 cities in the U.S. that are most vulnerable to coastal flooding, 22 are in Florida.

At the College of Marine Science, our graduate students see those challenges, too, but they also see an even greater number of opportunities for understanding, innovation and action. Help them accomplish our mission to solve ocean challenges with cross-disciplinary, action-focused research; redefine what it means to live sustainably; and help inform responsible policy and effective management actions.

Your contribution means healthier oceans for us all, from the coastlines we all enjoy to the deepest, sunless parts of the sea where mysteries abound.

Your Impact

In such an uncertain world, it’s saltwater that joins us all; it’s in our blood, sweat and tears — and in the ocean. Join our community of supporters and help our graduate students foster innovation and resiliency in the face of challenges to ocean health.

They stand on the shoulders of a world-class faculty with a proven record of success. Our faculty are members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Academy of Inventors, the American Geophysical Union and more. We do not operate alone. We sit at the heart of one of the largest marine science hubs in the country that includes the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association National Marine Fisheries Service, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, the Florida Institute of Oceanography, the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, U.S. Coast Guard and the Maritime and Defense Technology Hub.

Your contribution means healthier, more sustainable oceans for us all to enjoy — and our kids and grandkids, too.

USF Faculty and Staff: You can give online through this site, or complete this payroll deduction form (fund #260040, Marine Science Operating Fund) and email it to fscampaign@usf.edu.

What Your Generosity Will Do

• Help graduate students attend and share their voices at world-class conferences and events
• Support world-class marine research that takes place in Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico to the far reaches of Antarctica
• Support our mission to ensure our science is shared widely, including with youth and other community groups

Appreciation

Thank you. With your support, we can solve the challenges facing the ocean with resiliency and resolve — and continue to build the next generation of a vibrant, blue economy that celebrates enterprise and innovation.
