ABOUT THE YYC
The YYC opened its doors in 2012, initially focusing on caring for LGBTQ+ and homeless youth. Since those early days, the clinic has expanded its focus to include all youth, ages 13-24, whose needs may not be met by traditional healthcare providers. Services include free walk-in sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV testing, low to no-cost appointments for STI and HIV treatment, prevention counseling, birth control and linkage to other community youth programs. In addition, the YYC also serves as a research center for national and state projects involving the health of teenagers and young adults.
Why the YYC needs your help
Funding for staff salaries comes from federally funded research and grants, and contracts with the Hillsborough County Department of Health. Other money needed to support daily operating expenses such as rent, utilities and printing costs comes from our fundraising activities. Although insurance is accepted at the YYC, many patients do not have any coverage, and no one is turned away because they cannot pay. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to our care delivery model, particularly our walk-in testing so we have had to develop creative solutions to continue to meet patient needs. Our goals, as we continue to negotiate the pandemic, are to continue to develop new strategies to reach the youth that need our services and to be poised to introduce an even better version of our walk-in testing when we return to business as usual. We cannot achieve these goals without your support - so please consider making a donation to support the YYC.
