The Spanninga Family Scholarship

Students who attend the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus tend to be older and work longer hours than typical college students. As a result, they have in many cases experienced significant financial hardships through job loss, suspension or limited hours of operation due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

Nearly half of our students work at least 33 hours per week, and two-thirds work at least 25 hours per week. Nearly one-quarter are married and/or have children. Now more than ever, they need your support balancing school, work and family obligations. The majority of our students — around 70 percent — transferred to the Sarasota-Manatee campus from other schools. They represent our interdependence on Florida two-year state colleges to provide a transfer population to meet the unique needs of a research university. 

The Spanninga Family Scholarship supports full-time, undergraduate students who have transferred to USF. Students from all majors in all colleges on all campuses within USF are eligible. Awards are based upon merit and students must work while attending USF to qualify for the scholarship support.
