Paying it Forward

Unforeseen financial hardships have the potential to derail students’ dreams of completing their college education. USF Sarasota-Manatee campus alumna, Amelia Foxwell experienced an unexpected situation during her senior year that could have prevented her from graduating. Thankfully, she received a scholarship; as a result, she didn’t have to make the difficult choice between paying the bills and continuing her education. Amelia graduated and is now founder and CEO of Sweet Bay Magnolia Academy in Stevensville, MD, a student-centric school program that provides students and parents with an intensive and individualized educational experience.

Out of gratitude for the financial assistance she once received, Amelia established The Foxwell Family scholarship, and is "paying it forward" for USF Sarasota-Manatee campus students in need.

The Impact

The Foxwell Family Scholarship is available to all USF Sarasota-Manatee campus students who encounter unexpected hardships or expenses when other funds are not available. Those eligible are full and part-time students, at all academic levels, pursuing all majors in all colleges. Instead of choosing between, for example, a sudden medical bill or auto-repair charge, or staying in school, a student is able to proceed with their education. Unlike other scholarships that may have a standard amount, this scholarship is flexible and is based on the needs of each student.
