In the USF College of Engineering, Joe Rogers is remembered for his dedication and service in the field of computer engineering. Having earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the college, he continued his journey post-graduation as a full-time employee in 1995.
Joe was a Whitehatter through and through — all of his hacking and cyber security work was focused on protecting the average citizen and thwarting the "bad guys."
Since stepping foot on the USF campus as an undergraduate student, to his final days before passing away in 2019, Joe was passionate about USF and the College of Engineering. The Joe Rogers Memorial Scholarship was established by fellow alumni and longtime friend, Jeremy Rasmussen. You can help Joe's family, friends and colleagues celebrate his life today by honoring his commitment to the field of computer science.
The Whitehatters Computer Security Club (WCSC) is an organization that is funded by Student Government at USF. Founded in 2005, the original goal of WCSC was to develop a team to play in DEFCON's Capture the Flag competition.
Today, although the primary focus is still information security competitions, the goals of WCSC have expanded to include raising awareness to issues within the field of information security among its membership and community.
With your gift of any size, you are making an impact on the lives of students studying computer science, computer engineering, information technology and cyber security at USF. Becuase of Joe's extensive history with the department and the club, the scholarship has a preference for a student member of the USF Whitehatters.
This project is one great step in helping the Joe Rogers Memorial Scholarship to reach endowment at the $25,000 level, honoring Joe's legacy in the USF College of Engineering in perpetuity.
