Housing & Residential Education Student Resident Scholarship

Kedrine Gayle is a second-year pre-nursing student and a 2019 Housing & Residential Student Resident Scholarship recipient. As a Jamaican immigrant, she says living on campus has given her the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds, become a part of the USF community and become more independent. She says the Housing & Residential Student Resident Scholarship has given her the hope and affirmation she needs to continue school and continue to live on campus.

Eve De Rosa is a second-year student majoring in biomedical sciences and a 2019 Housing & Residential Education Student Resident Scholarship recipient. In addition to living on campus, she works for Housing & Residential Education as a desk clerk at the 24-hour desks. Eve says living on campus has given her the resources she needs in order to become a part of the USF community and achieve her academic goals.

Ana Hernandez is the assistant vice president of Housing & Residential Education at USF. Her career includes leadership positions in residence life, assignments, marketing, family and graduate housing, project management and administration at the University of Southern California, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and USF.

Ana explains, “Housing & Residential Education (HRE) staff believe in the value of the residential experience to help students be successful and become full Bulls. They strive every day to make our motto a reality: The best place to live, best place to work and best place to learn. The HRE staff are committed to removing barriers that may prevent students from accessing this once in a lifetime experience. There is a LONG history of HRE staff reaching into their own pockets and donating to support residential scholarships year after year and continue this legacy of generosity. I am very proud to be associated with the HRE team and the fantastic students who call campus home. Please donate and help us help more students.”

Andy Johnson, Ed.D, is the director of operations and outreach of Housing & Residential Education at USF. Andy’s areas of responsibility include leading the occupancy management of more than 6,000 beds, a robust conference program, HRE’s communications and marketing efforts, departmental assessment initiatives and information technology management. Andy has been working in college housing for the past 12 years with seven years as a chief housing officer in varying institution types. Andy completed his doctoral degree in higher education leadership and organizational leadership at Nova Southeastern University.

Julia Anderson is the assistant director of communications and marketing for USF Housing & Residential Education. Julia earned her master’s degree in mass communication from UCF where she also worked in marketing before moving to the Tampa Bay area. Julia enjoys working for USF Housing because she understands how important living on campus is for students based on her own experience.
