Who We are
The mission of the USF Education Abroad Office is to promote global competency by supporting and creating high-impact, innovative and accessible international experiences for students. Studies have shown that students who study abroad are more likely to have a higher GPA upon their return, as well as a higher likelihood to graduate in four years. According to the Institute of International Education's Open Doors Report, an average of 98% of USF students who study abroad graduate in four years. Education Abroad is also considered a high impact practice, which is part of the general education curriculum at USF. All Education Abroad experiences count towards students' degree requirements, and may include coursework, internships, service-learning projects, research, or a combination of these.
Help bulls study the world
Financial barriers are cited as one of the largest reasons students choose not to study abroad, or are weary about beginning the process. Forty-two percent of students who sign into our Gateway Office chose funding and scholarships as the main reason they are visiting, and nearly every student asks about paying for study abroad via financial aid or scholarships during their advising sessions.
Your Impact
One of the initial barriers to students studying abroad is that they do not have a passport and never have had one previously. Our goal is to raise $2,500 to award students the money to receive a first-time adult passport, a cost of $145 each. A passport will not only support them through one study abroad trip, but countless international experiences for the next ten years.
Having a passport is the first step towards students being able to study abroad and is a tangible item that allows them to become excited and realize that study abroad is an actual possibility. Your gift will allow a student to study the world and enhance their global view as a USF Bull.
