What We Do
The Department of Psychology offers students the opportunity to live and learn in London through one of USF’s flagship and largest faculty‑led study abroad programs. Over four immersive weeks, more than 125 USF students earn six academic credits while engaging directly with one of the world’s most influential cities — where history, culture and human behavior intersect daily.
This program extends learning far beyond the classroom through site visits, guest speakers and culturally immersive experiences that deepen students’ understanding of the human mind. To further enrich the academic experience, the Department of Psychology is fundraising to support intentional extracurricular programming, Dinner in the Dark with individuals who are blind or visually impaired, which is designed to foster empathy, self‑reflection and insight into human perception and cognition.
Who We Are
USF is ranked No. 28 nationally among public universities for the number of students studying abroad. More than 1,200 USF students from over 100 different majors have joined USF faculty in London over the past 10 years, and Psychology students are consistently one of the largest groups participating in the program.
The USF Department of Psychology is home to around 3,500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Our community also includes administrative staff, academic advisors and around 90 core, affiliated and emeritus faculty members across three campuses. Since our department was founded in 1961, we have celebrated graduating more than 25,000 students, providing them with an understanding of scientific approaches to tackle many issues of human behavior.
The Impact
The USF in London education abroad experience is a defining chapter in the personal and academic journeys of our students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to become global citizens. By taking cross-cultural and psychology career development courses in London, students gain an impactful international experience that propels their career readiness and personal growth.
Past students have enthusiastically expressed how important their USF in London experiences have been in their lives. Students described the summer program as a deeply impactful and transformative experience that shaped their academic and personal growth. They felt the courses clarified their career goals, influenced their engagement and direction at USF and provided meaningful, lasting experiences — both inside and outside the classroom — that changed how they think about themselves, their education and the world around them.
