WLP/Dorothy Warren Burke Endowed Scholarship
History
This scholarship was founded by Dr. Moira J. Burke, in honor of her mother, Dorothy Warren Burke, on July 1, 2016. Dr. Burke attained both her undergraduate degree and medical degree as a scholarship student, graduating with no student loan debt. She grew up in a home of modest means but tremendous expectations, an anomaly for a woman during that time in America. Her father was a schoolteacher and her mother was a homemaker who never attended college, but they always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. She wants to offer the same opportunity to other young women.
Scholarship Criteria
This scholarship provides support to full-time undergraduate and graduate students studying Pre-Med or Health Sciences on the Tampa campus. The scholarship is based on merit with a preference for financial need. Preference will be given to a female student on a defined Pre-Med track or a student in the Morsani College of Medicine.
